Santander Charges Help Me Please!!!

Hi I have been in Australia for the last 6 months and prior to that I had a direct debit for Sky Tv going out. Anyway to cut a long story short it was cancelled and off I went abroad. It now appears that Sky have attempted to continue the DD at there own will and this has caused my Santander account to be overdrawn.. Santander have thrown there own charges and now I am horrified to find the account £594 overdrawn and they have issued a default notice on th 4th Feb. I got back to UK on the 11th Feb.
Any help or advice would be appreciated please.
Thanks in anticipation

Hi both I have done it twice with the bank as sky attempted twice before0

Was the contract with Sky cancelled as well, or was the contract just continuing? If it was still running, you had no right to cancel the DD and I am not surprised Sky re-instated it.
If there was no more contract with Sky, than they were wrong to set it up again. Contact Sky.
Did you advise your bank about your absence from home?0 -
sky were asked for paper bill as i no longer wanted any ddebits whilst away, my parents were paying bills for me. why advise my bank im going away there was no need to do that??0

sky should have been sending monthly bill as per my asking at extra costs to me which was fine. sure would have been cheaper than this option...0

Did your parents not tell you that they never received the monthly bill?
Or did your parents receive them but ommitted to pay them for some reason?
Was it possible on your contract to change to paper bills? Some plans only allow DDs.0
