Amazon Market Place - Avoid FozTronik

Options
I would strongly advise doing your research before buying any form of technology through the Amazon market place. I was UNFORTUNATE enough to buy a "NEW" Sony Vaio laptop from one of their market place sellers (FozTronik). I experienced battery failure within 90 days and tried to contact FozTronik who refused to respond, despite repeated attempts to do so via Amazon. Frustratingly enough when you buy through the Amazon Market place, the 90 guarantee period only applies to 14 days. If the product you bought is faulty after the 14 days you aren't covered by Amazon!

In the end I had to send the laptop to Sony who confirmed it had been altered prior to delivery and the battery wasn't the original, wires had been poorly seated and they even managed to miss a few retaining screws too! As such the warranty was invalid and Sony presented me with the choice of paying £930 for a new laptop, paying £63 to return the laptop, or finally have Sony destroy the laptop.

Anyway, cut a long story short as I bought the laptop using my credit card and was issued an engineers report from Sony I was fortunate enough to have the Credit card companies resources to chase FozTronik and return my money. This took about 4 months and in the end I was refunded..no thanks to FozTronik and all the thanks to my persistence and Halifax..and my wife!

So my advice is avoid FozTronik and do your research if you buy through the Amazon Market place as your consumer rights are void after 14 days. Go for reputable online or high street retailers. I have learnt that even if it costs more it means you can buy with confidence.

Good to hear that you satisfactorily resolved your issue in the end, but for the benefit of anyone else who may read this thread, that statement I have quoted simply isn't true.

Just because Amazon may or may not help you after 14 days, does not mean that your consumer rights disappear after that time too.

I suggest you read MSE's Consumer Rights guide and in there you will find that you have up to six years to seek a remedy from the seller.
Remember, Amazon are not the seller in this case.
