brake vaccum ump and serious oil leak

Hello,
Wonder if anyone could help...
This week my brakes failed (very hard and stiff), took it into my local garage and had a new brake vaccum pump & everything was fine.. anyway the following day (yesterday) my oil light came on (unusual as it had oil change last month. So drove to garage looked underneath car and there was a obvious oil leak! They put a litre in & a litre came out!!
Now I haven't got a clue about cars! But..could the oil leak be anything to do with the new pump? Is the oil leak why my brakes failed and also would there not have been an obvious oil leak while it was on a ramp?
Car is now in the garage again .... such a pain when you work 40miles away!!!
Many Thanks

Possibly. But if the leak's that obvious, then it'll be obvious where it's coming from.Is the oil leak why my brakes failed
No. The brake vac pump on a diesel provides the vacuum to operate the servo - which reduces the effort you need to press the brake pedal. The brakes themselves were working just fine, you just couldn't press the pedal hard enough to get them to do their thing properly - because you didn't have the "invisible friend" helping you, like you normally do.0 -
There is normally no link between between the oil system and brake servo.
I suppose they could have damaged something but you'd have to try pretty hard to manage that.
It could have a common cause bit of road debris damaged both but you'll have to be amazingly unlucky for that to happen.
But most likely its a coindence.0 -
Hopefully the garage wasn't to far away.0

Dependent on the car, the majority of diesels I have come across with an engine-driven vacuum pump have an oil feed to the vac pump to keep it lubricated. As this has just been replaced, then I would suggest that the feed line wasn't connected correctly, or there's a gasket missing or damaged, creating this problem.
The garage should be able to quickly find and resolve this - hopefully at no cost to yourself.PLEASE NOTE:

Its a diesel so has a vacuum pump to generate the vacuum required for the servo. These are normally engine driven. So an oil leak is a possibility.
As mentioned the brakes didnt fail the servo failed. Braks would still stop the car fine but you will need a lot more effort in pushing the pedal.
What worries me is the oil light came on yet you drove to the garage to get it checked.
Rather worried that the OPCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
A litre went in and straight back out... Out of where ?0
