Mistake on HPI check?

Hi, going to see a car tomorrow 50 miles away (private sale) and we've sort of agreed on a price but won't be finalising the deal until we've seen and driven the car (obviously).

It's a 2009 Fiesta advertised with 27,000 miles. But we just did an HPI check with mycarcheck.co.uk which says the mileage in Jun 2012 (just over 3yrs old) was 220,000 miles!! That's got to be a mistake, surely?

If it was 50,000 or even 27,001 miles I'd walk away now but with such a massive number I can't see how it could be done in that time on a Fiesta. This is the only mileage reading on the report and was logged before the last sale; i.e. before the current owner bought it.

Should we do another check if there are signs of bonnet chips/worn steering wheel and the MOT cert. at the time shows 220k? Or is the mycarcheck.co.uk HPI check reliable enough to just walk away now? All the other checks were clean.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks

Sounds like a typo at the MOT centre and would certainly tie up with the current mileage. Maybe check service records correspond with that being 22,000 instead.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Don't waste your petrol money. Phone the owner and get a reasonable response from them, its not a Bugatti your chasing.

Do a proper HPI check. Have you checked the previous MOTs?

Before travelling ask for the info you need to check the online MOTs
