And we want you to be there. Because we have teamed up with the promoters to offer 10 of our readers the chance to win tickets and goodies to the ultimate summer event.

The cavalry Naturally the music takes pride of place at the Battle Proms and this year the musical programme is a succession of triumphal classics. You can indulge in the romance of Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, be uplifted by Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with live cannon fire or waltz under the stars to Strauss’s Roses from the South!


Now a Battle Proms favourite Denise Leigh will entertain you with operatic arias as well as an arrangement of the delicate traditional song The Lark in the Clear Air. 19 year old Il young Chae will delight you with her virtuoso performance of the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.

A spitfire New for 2007 is the Grace Spitfire Air Display: carefully choreographed to Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No 4.


2007 also sees a new support act: the accomplished acoustic guitarist Matthew Ord who will entertain you with live folk music while you enjoy your picnic. Also before the main musical programme there is the opportunity to visit the Napoleonic encampment and the traditional fairground side stalls.

The Napoleonic cavalry and infantry will duel, drill and skirmish their way into the first half of the evening as they entertain you with their skill at arms displays. They will demonstrate their skills with swords, pistols and lances using horsemanship of the highest level.

The fireworks The English Field Artillery Company will then dramatically open the evening’s musical entertainment with a volley of shots from a vintage field gun.


The centrepiece of the concert is the unique staging of Beethoven’s ‘Battle Symphony’ complete with 193 live cannon, musketfire, re-enactments and plenty of fireworks! The result is a ground-shaking, breathtaking display which is unforgettable.

Denise Leigh will lead the finale adding a touch of pomp and circumstance to the evening as she sings all the ‘last night of the proms’ favourites including Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory. Look skywards and you will also see a sensational firework display which creates an exciting end to a thrilling evening.
