I find myself using my mobile devices more and more now days but somehow never feel them to be as "safe?" as my desktop!

I have a Hudl and have just treated myself to a new mobile a Moto G at the moment I have Avast on my mobile & Hudl is this safe enough? I see there is a Malwarebytes App Im not sure....is this a Anti Virus program that protects you or just a scanner that you run now and again on your device? - like I had on my desktop.

I'm not sure if you still get all the same types of viruses and spyware or is it actually more secure?

Hope someone can pls give me some advice and sorry if they seem like daft Q's but can't seem to get my head round it and want to make sure I'm protected if I shop online do banking etc?

Thanks

What do you believe these are protecting you against?

If you bank with Barclays, you can get Kaspersky Mobile free. I'm not sure what real benefits it offers though. Most, if not all, the anti-theft features seem to come as standard on the Moto G and the internet protection is so effective, it stops you connecting to the internet.
  • I own a hat which protects me from being trodden on by elephants. It cost me £100 and is so heavy I can barely hold me head straight when walking, but I know it's effective as I haven't been trodden on by an elephant since I bought it. People are being trodden on by elephants all the time, or at least that's what the man that sold me the hat tells me, and why would he lie?

Can you PM me a link to the supplier please - I want one too as I don't trust my ultrasonic elephant repeller - no backup batteries.

There is a smattering of malware around on Android but most will come from downloads rather than the Play store. Stick to the Play store and imo there is little need for any anti malware software.

Possibly more important than the "anti virus" protection that some of these utilities offer is the addition of recovery software (ie If lost - you can send a "ping" to the device wipe it/ send you a location and photo of the potential thief/location)

Basic remote wiping is built in on Android already now...

I think the settings needed are there by default as I never did anything to set my old Nexus 7 up and it was already registered when I looked. I did have to download google services and make some setting for my HTC Desire but that's years old.

Agree stick to play store and very little chance .But as more and more uneducated users are using smartphone with banking apps etc . Its a target for criminals as the security reports show .

Thank You all for your replies......sorry for the delay in getting back to you had a busy few days....avoiding being trod on by elephants trying to find one of those hats to protect myself against this in my local Top Shop etc... It's a jungle out there! :rotfl:

No....BUT I am VERY serious here I just want to protect myself having been the victim of Visa card fraud twice in 2 years which my bank did pick up and therefore refunded me on the transactions. I just want to be sure that I can do online Banking and Shopping etc safely on my Tablet & Phone. I'm no too bothered about someone stealing my actual phone more my card details etc. when I'm online. As long as Avast is good for that then I'm Ok.

Ps. Got my Moto G now seriously impressed - for the price amazing!
