  • I have just logged on for my morning fix of MSE and cannot quite believe all the lovely messages and tips I've received. Thank you all so much :)

I don't want to feel poor (cos I am not) nor do I want to talk about money all the time only when challenged by the kids etc about the cost of stuff, cos I want to attract wealth not poverty!!

Out of my friends I have the least income by far (Half of one of my friends and a third of the other one) but I am debt free which neither of them are, I have no money in my current account today but do not have an overdraft and I overpay my mort regularly. So I don't think you need to earn loads to overpay cos it is a mindset, a habit. You look at the way people live there lives on this website and food is being grown and made, crumbles and cakes are being made and unwanted goods from homes are sold on to people who need them to both parties gain - people are living more sustainably and saving a penny here or there but replacing it with time and love and that cannot be but good :) .

This is so true. I believe it is far more important to be richer in life skills and relationships than it is to be chasing after the latest gadget or gizmo. I'm not saying it's not nice to have these things but for me the pleasure comes from saving up for it rather than putting it on the plastic card.

MSE news for today. I have managed to secure lift shares for next week so the £20 I had set aside for the bus fare can now be an OP as can an extra £10 Tilly tidy from the bank account. I can't wait to phone up the mortgage company this morning and make my first OP of £140 yippee :T

Then I'll have to start all over again for March. Seeing as I smashed my Feb target which was £50 I am going to aim for £100 in March.

I hope it's sunny where you are. Enjoy your weekend.

    DC1 :)

P.s to all of those who have replied to my thread and to any new readers. Do you have diaries, I would love read or can you suggest any really inspirational ones that have helped you.

  • My very first OP of £140 was made yesterday.....yippee. I'm not sure I filled in the details correctly online, so fingers crossed it reaches my mortgage account.

Not a very MS day yesterday. I forgot to take food out the freezer for friends coming round for dinner last night. We ended up getting a Chinese. It was lovely but an expense I could have done without

Hopefully today will be a better day :)

  • We're not day to overpay yet. We're making the necessary arrangements to save the money that we can then overpay. yesterday, OH built a log store, so we can bulk buy unseasoned wood, season it ourselves in our store and save packets on our heating through the winter.

Just as well he's relatively practical!

  • So..... After a rather miserable day at work, have come home even more galvanised to find a way to leave the rat race sooner rather than later!
So immediate moneysaving things I can do are........

To stop drinking! Although in 2014 I've been drinking much less than 2013, but often work drives me to it! This will probably only save me about £15 a month but that is a similar amount to my car tax. Also will help me remain a bit trimmer than I have been over last year or so.

To take packed lunches to work. However I can get a meal at work for £2.60 a day, so have to make sure the lunch I take totals less than this. If I manage this twice a week, then will add £5 a week to my savings.
Potential savings here equal 35 per month.

OH is busy brewing lots of alcohol in various forms for himself and a few for me so should save some money there.

We've done a bill calendar so we can plan ahead. I'm already pretty hot on budgeting so don't think there's a huge amount I can save there.

Used to use quidco quite a lot and am looking to go back to saving through them.

Decided that rather than be fed up am going to do one thing everyday that will make my life a little more mfw........
