Most garages won't use the 'sniffer' test, they will use the probe from their emissions tester to sniff out any gases which shouldn't be there in the coolant.
You say your car is overheating, are you losing coolant, are you having to top it up, if so how much is it losing? If you aren't losing coolant, then your thermostat could be faulty, the temp gauge or temp sender could be faulty.
What are the symptoms exactly?0 -
Hi northern munky the symptoms are that when i go up any kind of incline my temp gauge starts to go up to the red in a matter of seconds i have to put the heaters on hot and fast and then stop! when i lifted the bonnet there was a load of steam and i had to wait quite a while before i could check the water which was very low {evaporated} i presume and boiling. the water level was on max when i checked it before my journey. i need to get this sorted so hopefully this test kit will give me some idea as to the problem i'm guessing if everything ok when i do it then it will be my radiator and i will then get one ordered, so fingers and everything else crossed. now i check the car before every journey and the water nearly always needs topping up as it will have overheated slightly on the previous journey and i only use the car when i have too, can't see any leaks from the radiator, so might be a blockage. thanks again guys0
