You wouldn't leave it if it was obviously black and mouldy though? ;)

Not the seal, no :) But I never open the drawer because I put the liquid straight into the drum so I wouldn't know if it was mouldy or not.

(OH is allergic to almost all washing powders and fabric softeners so I only use either Bold 2in1 liquid or Aldi non-bio liquid)

I also think that while liquid detergent is gentler on your clothes, it can gunk up the machine, so maybe stick to powder and the soda crystals.
But then washing at lower temperatures doesn't always dissolve the powder... even if the box states it will!

I wash at a number 7, which is either 30°C or 40°C. However I discovered most of the powder didn't dissolve so I tried out all (but liqui-tabs as they were expensive). I settled on gel, although I would easily swap to liquid.
I wrote a post on it HERE, complete with answers from P&G's Ariel company - you did know that Ariel contains 40% Daz didn't you?

You can also see a poll I started, which shows results on what people use to wash their clothes with.

I wish they would make washing machines with two knobs - temperature and time. Rinse would come under temperature knob. Why we need all these other different washes I will never know!
  • Re stuff sticking in the drawer.

I use laundry gel (Katie Elizabeth from £land) and, for whites, a scoop of Oxi Stain Remover as well.

To prevent the gel and powder sticking, I flush it all down with about 1/2 Litre of warm water, just before I start the wash cycle.

Another user of soda crystals here. A scoop in every wash and a hot 'empty' wash once a month.
I don't suffer from slimy drawer any more since binning conditioner and using vinegar instead.
I read somewhere on this forum that you can put the drawer (minus front) in the dishwasher now and again. (I would use the top, as it doesn't maintain such a high temperature throughout the wash)
I keep forgetting to try it but maybe someone can confirm?
It sounds like a good idea as I always end up with cuts and scratches while trying to clean mine:(

Yep! Vinegar is a good as a conditioner. Try a 30% Conditioner and 70% Vinegar mix. As clothes are stripped of build up from years of conditioner, you can gradually reduce and use it neat.

The vinegar will reduce the slimy drawer syndrome in washing machines, along with leaving drawer and door ajar after washing.

Remove drawer and give a hot water clean (from kettle) until this problem is under control. It won't take long.:beer:
