I have a tablet and a laptop. The laptop I always have it connected to the mains, therefore it is always fully charged. The tablet I let it exhaust itself and then charge fully. Is there any correct way to charge them, ie for max battery life?.

Seems to me you are committing two sins here
1. You should not leave a laptop running off the mains all the time. It does the battery good to be used from time to time down to about 25% left before recharging.
1. Conversely you're over doing it with the tablet. Modern batteries do not take kindly to being deep discharged as you can damage the chemical/ structural integrity. So, as in 1. let your tablet run down to about 20 - 25% left before charging, but don't let it drop to empty.... Charging little and often is much better than lots and infrequent. Topping up your device whenever convenient is a good for the health of the battery.0
