Changing from prepayment meters
I rent my house and have prepayment gas and electric meters. I know you can now change to ordinary meters even if the landlord does not want that.
I am thinking of changing as both my gas and electric are costing a fortune - between £3 and £4 a day for gas and that is only having it on for an hour and a half in the morning and about four hours in the evening. I don't put it on during the day at all even when I am cold. Also bearing in mind we have had a mild winter, if it gets colder obviously I will be paying more.
My electric is between £2 and £3 a day. I try to use as little electric as possible although I am using the tumble dryer more with all the rain!
Has anyone any ideas how much I would be likely to save if I change to ordinary meters?
The one thing I do like is paying as I go along. OH is self employed and we never know what money he will be getting and often customers don't pay on time etc. If we change to ordinary meters and pay by direct debit I worry that we may not have the money and the dd will be refused. Is there any scheme were you can pay money weekly/monthly or whatever yourself rather than paying by direct debit?

The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie

If you don't want to pay by DD then in most cases the only option is the standard pay on bill tariff which these days costs the same as paying via a prepayment meter.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
