Personally I feel for the 86 year old whose property is being fought over before he is in his grave.

I just see the OPs issue as risk management and dispute prevention, whatever the motivations of OP and excluded occupier, negative or positive. Better to prepare - to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. It's clear the grandson is very ignorant about their legal position.

It is very regrettable that the grandson should make such threats.

However, that aside, assuming that grandpa is fond of the grandson and grateful for the company, perhaps he might consider amending the will so that on sale of the house, as directed in the will, the share that would otherwise go in its entirety to the grandson's parent, should be divided in whatever proportion is desired to give the grandson some cash towards rent/deposit on a property of his own?

All it does is alert people to your plans and give then a chance to plan.

if he believed he can do what he threatens best to just keep quiet...

unless the motivation is to get people thinking about what will happen to him.
