EON economy 7
Hello, I just wanted to get some advice about something I've been thinking of doing recently.
We currently have economy 7 in our 1 bedroom flat but it does not have storage heaters just electric wall heaters.
due to the shifts me and my girlfriend work the electricity tends to be on all day, I finish work at 4 she starts work at 3. The only thing we use it for at night is heating water and the washing machine.
My question is would it be more beneficial to switch to eons standard fixed tariff due to not really using economy 7 in the way its supposed to?
Any advice would be much appreciated!

You really need to calculate your Day and Night usage. I believe the general thought is that you should be using at least 30-40% of your usage at night.
Also add the Day and Night usage together and using an online comparison site see what is the approximate charge for standard rate.0 -
thanks for the reply. Our night usage is below 30% so that would suggest economy 7 isn't for us.
Thanks I will go and do the comparison!0 -
the exact figures from last years bills are:
Day usage = 78%
Night usage= 22%0 -
Eco7 is a poor choice for you.
You may have to factor in the cost of some rewiring if you have anything on a dedicated E7 circuit.0 -
Hi Ryan_f
To benefit from Economy 7, you need to use a certain amount of electricity during the cheaper off peak night hours. The actual amount depends on the region, the prices and your usage.
You can check the amount you're using from your bills. Alternatively, give us a call and we'll be happy to tell you. Or, as Alt says, pop your usage on to one of the comparison sites.
With night usage below 30 per cent, I suspect Economy 7 isn't working well for you.
If you'll be better off, we can put you on a single rate tariff without changing the meter. We just add the day and night registers together and charge all usage at the day rate. This can be done immediately.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply! I think it would be better for us to switch away from economy 7. How do I go about doing this? is it best to call up?0

Hi Ryan_f
You can phone us and we can do this whilst you're on the line.
Alternatively, if you've registered with our website, you can switch to a single rate tariff this way. Just log in, select 'Find the Best Deal for you' from the left hand menu and click 'Get a Quote.'
From there, follow the screens through to the end, selecting the options as appropriate.
Hope this helps Ryan_f.
