Selling Car

Hi,

I have a Ford Fiesta Zetec, 2011, 30,000 miles, in Hot Magenta. I purchased this in March 2013 and paid £8,000 (plus part exchanged my Car for £500 reduction, so £8,500 in total really).

Its in fantastic condition and the only reasons I am selling it is because I no longer commute to work and therefore feel something like a Fiat Grande Punto or similar would do the job. I also took a loan to pay for the car and financially its better in the long-run (I think) to pay that off and go for something of much lower cost (around £3,000).

Can anyone help with selling my car though - I want to get the best possible price and think I could try to sell it for £7,500 perhaps? (Little room for wiggle, perhaps actually selling at £7,250?). Is Auto Trader the best place? Is there anything I should be aware of if I do Private Selling? Anywhere else worth considering?

Thanks - never sold a car before.

Not sure I understand your reason for thinking a punto would be any more appropriate, they're both roughly the same size and will cost roughly the same to own and run. If you were suggesting downgrading to sa and Aygo or C1 I could understand it but not a like for like swap, that's likely to cost you money in the long run?
  • My current car has £7000 left to pay on it - a Punto or any downgrade in car I'd only spend £3000 - £3500. So I'm saving myself £3500 of loan payments (not to mention the APR).
  • They look to be 5k on autotrader.

Given there are currently 63 Fiesta Zetecs on offer on Autotrader from 2011 with under 30k miles for less than £7k yours had better be pretty special. Even some main dealer stuff is below £7k.

Without knowing the model/spec if you're expecting to sell quickly then your ad needs to start with a 6 (if not a 5)
  • Not sure where you guys are getting 5K from. I've looked and most are at £8000 still through a garage if not more. Its a 5 door 1.4 engine. Newest model - not old model (which yes, are on there from 2011 at 30,000 miles for around £4800-5000).
  • Well I'm getting 5k from the autotrader based on the original info given.

If you paid 8.5k a year ago from a dealer you are not going to get near that now.
  • There is a hot magenta 1.4 zetec on a 2012 for less than 8k from a main dealer, so a private sale would need to be at least 1k less than that IMO.

There aren't many for sale privately, not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
  • How much of the 3 year warranty is left?
  • Thanks. How many miles has it done though or does that not count as much these days? Its not got any left, well, it won't by the time I sell it, runs out beginning of March.
  • it was 29,000 miles.

I think the warranty will mean a big hit.
Take the example I gave above, still has over 1 year manufacturer warranty as it's a 12 plate.
