New house and still no bill

We moved to our new build house in September and the day we moved in we asked the builder for our meter readings so we could register with First Utility as we used them at the old house. They gave us the meter readings and the meter ref numbers as First Utility asked for those. We then contacted N power for our final bill so we could get that paid and changed over. Well what can I say we are still waiting, first N Power said that our meter ref numbers were wrong and that the electric meter was registered to another house and the gas meter was not registered at all!!!! we went back to the builder who got us the correct meter number and we called N Power who said that they would sort our final bill.......we are still waiting and we have contacted them 6 times by phone, 3 times by email and twice by Twitter and still nothing, in the meantime we are paying N Power prices which are a lot higher than First Utility and we are going to end up with a huge bill.
We just want to pay our bill and get switched so everything is sorted and we can stop worrying,we dare not spend any money on anything but essentials until we get the final bill as we have no idea how much it is going to be so we just keep saving until it does.
Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do to get this moving or if we can dispute the payment when it finally comes due to how long we have waited and are they going to demand payment in one go?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes.

I had problems once moving away from British Gas and argued that they should deduct how much I could have saved had I been allowed to move straightaway (I worked this out for them). They obliged and posted the final bill requesting the balance of 1p. I ignored this and no reminder followed so I think I got away with it.

Not strictly true. By the letter of the law you need to pay for the energy you consume. You can ask for a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience caused, but they do not *have* to do this.

So fully expect to pay in full, but ask away for credit off the bill you never know what you may get.

  • They will let you pay the bill off in instalments if you need to. They are having problems producing final bills, I've known it take as long as 6 months so good luck with that!
