Being a Carer on Benefits does not pay. What is this government up to!! we single handedly save the government millions yet they want to include carer benefits and ESA (Support Group) as an income.... I have just found this out and because of this I will not be entitled to IS. (only by a hundred pound or so out) but will now miss out on having my SMI paid for me (about £250) because of this.....
So I seems that I will have to find work again now and the care will cost more to the government/council in the long run.
How does that work?!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I can offer no help really but I carried on working after my partner had a accident last year and the worry nearly did me in. I couldn't give up my job as I knew partner would get better.
Yes carers save the government money, I feel for you.The more I know about people, the better I like my dogs.

What is the care required? In some instances it can be provided whilst still working.0

Think you may be getting a bit mixed up.
If you are ESA conts and in the support group then you can't be getting carers allowance paid, but will be entitled to the premium
If you are on ESA IB in the support group then you will be getting carers allowance and the premium
You can't get Income Supoort and ESA together anyway
You may be entitled to help with your mortgage through your ESA claim, so ring ESA and ask or take yourself to CAB who can help you sort it out
You may get the SMI backdated. worth asking0 -
ESA and Carers Allowance are overlapping benefits, as they were with IB. Both cannot be paid, at the same time.
Carers Allowance and Retirement Pension are the same.
However, you can get 'premiums' which help towards certain means tested benefits. You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
