This I would second in spades, slugs REALLY love the baby bean shoots so we found the only way around this was to do the toilet roll planting thing and get them a bit bigger before they go out. I also surround them with crushed egg shells, just been crushing a load of saved shells this morning lol. Mind you we have chickens so always lots of eggs and shells. They then break down in the soil and feed the seedlings so I use them around alot of seedlings.

Agree with all of the above..especially the notes about slugs and cones..another advantage is that they freeze well0
