Wood Chip and Fungus

I topped up my paths with woodchip that was delivered to our allotment site. I now have a mushroon type fungus, which I believe to be "Cup Fungus", growing alongside the pathway in the beds.Should I try to get rid of it and if so how? A friend who also used the woodchip has the same problem.

I'm always dubious about using woodchip on the allotment, I know that a lot of people like it because it's free.

You say it is a 'problem,' but I can't see why.

Fungi are all around us. They do an important job in the environment, and honey fungus excepted, there are few which should concern us as gardeners.

Also, if wood chip is such a dodgy a material for mulch or pathway surfacing, why does the RHS use so much of it?

They probably chip their own so they know where it's coming from and what it contains.

It doesn't matter if you know where the wood chips come from - as Dave says, spores are all around us.

    Smaller company tree surgeons.

That's where ours come from. We bed our barn down on this. We also took a. Delivery from BT tree surgeons this year.

'Our' tree surgeon lets him self in and dumps it in the barn. He's one of the few people my dogs allow in. :). Then we rake and level it out before it gets too hot. :).

Your lucky only thing we get for free is left mould. Taken from nearby cemetery. I asked council if I could buy some from them as they use to sell in a bag for £1 but they dont sell it now.

I have decided to do my paths in gravel and weed suppressant material underneath
