I can only presume that the Ombudsman is there to back these companies.
Have you perhaps thought that your personal complaint may not have had any validity? It was rejected both by Homeserve AND the Ombudsman.0 -
I was sold a homeserve policy via my water company and regretted it. They didn't cover what I thought they did. I contacted them after getting the email on Thursday and am getting £109.75 refunded.0

Hi nearlyretired
I spotted your message about premiums increasing when you renew.
With regards to premiums, we believe we price our products fairly, in line with the value that we offer and the costs of providing our customers both the peace of mind and the service they need.
We’ve found that new customers prefer lower introductory prices during their first year of cover. This gives them the chance to experience our product, service and the value we offer, before moving onto our standard pricing.
Of course we always make sure that we clearly inform our new Customers of second year pricing – both at the time of taking out their cover as a likely illustrative price and again specifically in renewal policy packs around a month before renewal.
We try ensure our pricing specifically takes account of customers’ individual circumstances and are always happy to discuss cover levels and pricing with individual customers over the phone.
If you would like to discuss your specific needs and pricing, you can email us via our email address that can be found on our profile page and we’ll get in touch with you.
Regards,
David

I’ve had a contract with Homeserve for several years. Been happy with the service until last year. Engineer came to service boiler and straight away began telling me my boiler was old and I should replace it. When I said I was happy to keep it as long as it works he even told me I was a typical woman - said I wouldn’t wait until shoes wore out before buying new ones.
Anyway he serviced the boiler and ordered a part. Later got a phone call saying the cover would be cancelled because one of the parts he had ordered was not available, they would however replace it free - I’d only need to pay £4000 for fitting it.
I complained as the extra part ordered was not even required just ordered so they can claim the boiler BER. I have submitted a quote from British Gas which is a similar price but includes the cost of the boiler (~£1000). Homeserve are now not responding with an improved price. They should keep their promise of a free replacement.0
