Which ISP's does Xbox Live Multiplayer works with?

Options
Im currently with talktalk and my xbox live multiplayer keeps disconnecting. Im using talktalk branded supplied DSL-3680 router.

My xbox live works perfectly with my next door neighbours sky wireless router.

Is there a common problem with talktalk network not liking xbox live? If so which ISP's works perfectly with xbox live?

Or....

What are the best settings for my router that will make xbox live multiplayer work?

XBox Live will work on all ISP's, if you're having disconnection problems you need to raise a fault with TalkTalk.

    Pretty much it.

Repeated disconnections indicate a fault with the connection normally.

The only question I would ask is, are you using a wired or wireless connection to your home router?
If you're currently using wireless, try a wired connection for a while and see if that works better.

This may sound odd, but are you in old house. Sometimes the WiFi has trouble going through thick walls. It did with only the laptop in the old house we rented (the Xbox 360 and DSi where fine).

Sounds like a wifi problem. If your house is anything like average then your xbox will be a few walls away from your router. Use another device (such as a smartphone) to see how strong the wifi signal is near your xbox. If its weak then this will be the problem. Multiplayer games will 'time out' if the network connection is poor and often this will dump you out of live entirely.

But I had no problems with my xbox live with my sky wireless router last week. The sky wireless router was in the exactly same place where my current talktalk DSL-3680 router is.

So, did you raise a fault with Talk Talk?

Different routers/wireless devices cope differently with the same conditions*.

Typically ISP provided routers tend to be fairly cheap models, or customised to do what the ISP wants which tends to mean they can be rather flaky in one aspect or another. Things like wireless not being great is common, as better routers tend to use multiple antenna, often external which cost more and look unsightly, and multiple radios so they can do 2.4 and 5ghz at the same time (handy because it means that if you're using a mixture of new and old devices you're not stuck with the older, more crowded frequency range).

If using another router gives you a reliable signal you potentially don't need to change ISP, but just change the router you're using (there is no guarantee another ISP's supplied router will be any better).

We ended up buying quite an expensive router for our cable connection as the ISP supplied one was rubbish, and we wanted/needed the extra abilities (things like it having external aerials which could be adjusted manually).

*In the case of ADSL some ADSL modem/routers don't play well with the equipment installed in the exchange (they might work, but at lower speeds).

Are there any talktalk simply broadband customers out there that do not have any problems with xbox live in wireless mode using 3680 model router?

This will tell me whether its a common problem or not.

This may or may not be completely relevant, but on my PS4 I was having problems tethering my 3G via personal hotspot to my console to sign into PSN. It would either connect and then shortly afterwards disconnect, or get stuck in an infinite "attempting to connect" cycle.

To solve this I had to enter my SSID (internet name), security type and password all manually, but ever since then I've had no problems with it at all.

As I said, it may or may not be relevant, after all, it's a different console, connecting via different means, but it may be worth a try.

    Good luck :)
