Buying a House - Ivy on the bricks

Hi Guys,
Long time no see!
Hope you can help! I've been looking at this house:
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-44341175.html
But I've been looking into whether or not the ivy might be an issue. Google is so divided on the matter and I was wondering what other people's experience is with it.
Also what price do you think an offer should be for a property of this type?
I'm a first time buyer btw.
thanks in Advanced!

eek! Spiders! Very put off now0 -
My mum has a whole tonne of ivy over the front of her house. My dad always loved it so she's reluctant to get rid, even though she hates the stuff.
The walls are damaged underneath, but not so bad that they're crumbling! Just surface damage, I think.
She regularly has to have someone come in to trim it (more £££s).
And don't talk to me about the spids  (but then she has Hainault Forest outside the back gate so that brings in plenty!)

If i liked the house other than the ivy i don't think it would put me off. I like ivy i've got it growing over my garden fence, but i don't think i'd want that much on the house.
To get rid you're going to need a few skips or big bonfire, just going to be a time consuming job cutting it all back. The only thing to worry about how much damage has it done clinging to the wall, you may need to get the pointing done. You may get away with just cleaning up with a wire brush.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I have no information about the ivy but oh my goodness, what a stunning house! If I wanted to live in that area, I would snap that property up, especially at that price! It looks so spacious and I think the outside is beautiful.
I'd look into the potential implications of the ivy but try not to let you put it off. Have you viewed it yet? If not, go and view it now! The price is very good so I think you'd have to consider how much you're willing to pay for it. Maybe a starting offer of £108,000 would be acceptable?
Edit - spiders?! Argh!!! Forget it and run for the hills!! (only joking ;-) )0 -
I wouldn't let the ivy influence me. You like the house and price? Buy it.
Then decide what to do.
Personally I'd trim it round the windows, and cut it off at the top of the walls to stop it growing into the gutters and between the roof tiles.
What's so wrong with spiders? They eat the mosquitoes.......0 -
If I could buy a 3 bed semi where I live for that money I'd get it with Ivy all over the whole house!0

I will caveat - I do live in this area and it isn't the nicest.
Why only a month ago was it finally removed of the worst post code for insurance claims for burglaries.....
But I've never lived in a nice area so I know what to expect! :P0 -
I hate to be a spoilsport so late in the thread.......
