urgent advice on car insurance....this is getting silly

hi all any advice greatly appreciated. my son was stopped for having no car insurance in november and had his car towed away he explained to the police officer that he did have insurance and could he please call home to check this which he declined to do so,me and my son spent 5 hours of the following day getting the car back and having to pay £150 pound and still trying to reclaim (so far no luck). he has since been stopped a further 2 times the latest 30 minutes ago. he has a copy of his car insurance policy but again the police weren't convinced but on checking twice the car came up as being insured. can anyone shed any light on why this happens,Admiral have assured us 3 times that their database is updated every 24 hours and as far as they are concerned they have done everything they can. cheers

Any mixup on the reg number a letter O instead or a zero?

My dad had a similar issue. His number plater actually spells something if you
space it differently. When he got insurance the person inputting the reg must have thought of the word and put the letter O instead of a zero.

His showed as uninsured for years. He thought it was because it was a trade style policy which allowed him to use any vehicle and be covered.

My guess would be that there is a marker against the car on the PNC because of previous incidents recorded against the vehicle - assuming that your son didn't buy the car new, does he know anything about it's previous history?
  • insurance company have the correct number plate....good point about a marker, no he knows nothing about the previous history. could he be being pulled because it was towed away before > cheers

I used to think the same, but . .

    Briefly,
Involved in an accident with a 3rd party injury

Police showed up and checked my vehicle details. I could hear the details come back over his radio -My reg, Nissan pick-up etc etc - everything ok.

When I spoke to the insurance co, they had it down as (my reg) Ford Iveco

Checked askmid and there it was - my Nissan had morphed into a Ford.

Contacted my broker who had it down as it should be, a Nissan.
    Took some sorting out . . .

Thing is, the police roadside check was as it should be, but askmid was wrong, so they obviously don't use the same database, otherwise this couldn't have happened.
  • lol now even more confused.

Get your son to carry the certificate of insurance and if stopped produce this to the police.

If he has problems with it being towed again, you can then refer to the pryor v Chief Constable of GMP and recover any outlay from them.
