As the title suggests....
Have done a speed test five minutes ago....
34mps download - 3.5mps upload
So why doesn't it seem quicker ?
Also downloading from Sky, the downloads seem to take as long as they ever did.
I feel as though I haven't got the extra bang for my buck !!
Should I have changed any of my settings ?
As ever, thanks for your help !

Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

Because the website your downloading from cannot pass the data to you any faster.
It will make zero difference to most websites. Unless the page has lots and lots of large high res pictures and their server can handle the load.
I can download a 1GB movie file in under 3 minutes on my fibre connection.
Around 70mb/sec
Are you connected to the router using wireless?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Likewise as explained with my connection a download may be very fast but a web site will show no increase over previous 8mb connection .
Upload is relatively slow though at 3.5 if you are showing 34mb download .
Take a number of speed tests to get a better indication .0 -
So why doesn't it seem quicker ?Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Try downloading a driver file from https://www.nvidia.com - any one will do, you can delete it afterwards. They have very quick servers and will give you a realistic idea of how fast you can download.0

Have you tried the speed test from BT Wholesale? http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
You can perform a detailed test by providing your post code and telephone number, once the test has completed you will see the info displayed: "IP profile for your line is"
IP profile rate (Mbps) – To ensure your line doesn’t receive more data than it can cope with; we set a parameter within our network called IP Profile. This profile will be slightly less than the DSL connection rate negotiated by your router. If this wasn’t set we may try to transmit more data to you than your broadband circuit can managed and this would end up having a negative effect on your broadband speed.
It might be worth comparing the results from BT with SpeedTest: http://www.speedtest.net/ try selecting the default "begin test" which will run the best server for the test based on ping.
What is the advertised speed of the Fibre package you were sold? Usually the ISP will mention what your maximum achievable speed will be.
Are you using a wireless connection for your tests?
If you are, how far are you from the router?
Can you try a wired connection and then run the same tests to see if the speed result improves?0 -
Yep, single websites will be limited on the bandwidth they have to send content. Most peeps use fibre for peer-to-peer torrent downloads where you are connected to 10s of senders at once.0
