How best to answer the question "why do you want to do this role"?

How does this sound as being more in-depth and showing im serious about working in underwriting:
I want to pursue my career as an underwriter in the insurance sector as the varied day-to-day duties are very appealing to me. Reviewing applications for insurance coverage, determining the risk involved and calculating the appropriate premiums would all develop and utilise my analytical flair.
The exceptional analytical and communication skills required for this role first attracted me to underwriting as I am seeking a position which allows me to showcase these abilities of mine.
I see this position as providing me a strong foundation for work in the insurance industry; my medium-term goal is to become an ACII qualified underwriter.

I would reword that bit, as it doesn't sound right. Maybe something like 'my abilities in this area'.
I feel for you. Just started applying for jobs and finding the application forms really hard going. Doesn't help that I didn't even get an interview when I applied for a position with an organisation that I'm already volunteering for in a similar role! Big blow to my confidence.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Thanks i will amend that part,
i have been advised the following:
"you have to break it down into more detail that demonstrates you understand the job in some detail and you have the skills, experience and interest to match."
how would i showi understand the job without just reciting the job duties?0 -
last question, any thoughts on my last post please?0

Try to give very specific examples of things you have done that showed you have practiced skills that they have asked for in the job spec/description - something I'm not very good at doing, which is why I struggle with application forms! For instance, in my most recent job application it asks for 'domestic skills relating to general household tasks (cooking, cleaning, shopping and managing money). I have said that I was a single parent and was responsible for all household tasks and had to manage on a limited income. Also that my working background was in financial services so I have knowledge that I could pass on to service users. The job I am applying for involves helping people in supported housing. I don't have to actually clean their houses (I hope!) but it might involve helping and advising them.
This is obviously a very different job to the one you are applying for, but the principal remains the same.
It does sound like the agency are being very demanding and not very helpful. Also can't understand why they won't tell you who the employer is - one thing that is always advised is that you do reseach on the company, which you obviously can't do if you don't know who they are!3 stone down, 3 more to go0
