Esa change of condition

Looking for some help please...
I am currently on ESA in WRAG my contributions stage will run out in late May...what happens then?

Also I am currently under going Physio for a pirriformis (butt muscle spasm) which developed from a totally unrelated operation. Spinal problems are my main illness, however these spasms have really limited the small amount I can already do. How do I go about notifying them of the change in my condition and would it be worth appealing my WRAG status on the strength of this?

Thank you, any advice is much appreciated. I'm afraid I have buried my head as far as all the quirks of ESA.

Appealing what exactly? If your condition has changed and you meet one of the criteria for the support group, you ca inform them of this.

After 265 days, you have to apply for income based ESA if you qualify for it.

Sorry I thought I was being concise, appealing for Support status as my condition has changed. I was asking what would be the best way to proceed re informing them

Do they send me papers to me to apply or do I have to contact them?

    TIA

  • I think what Indie Kid is saying is that there's nothing to Appeal. An appeal is lodged when the claimant believes there has been an incorrect decision made on the basis of the info given at the time. At the time of your Assessment for ESA you were assessed on the condition/s you had at that time. If since then, your condition has changed, you should look at the Support Group descriptors and see how your new condition would qualify you for the Support Group.

The main thing is unless your new or additional condition means you can no longer do things which you could before, then you won't automatically be assessed as being eligible for Support Group Status. Simply type in "Support Group descriptors", into your search engine to help you with this. Yes inform them.

Sorry my bad I didn't understand. It does affect my mobility, so yes I feel it would qualify for one of the descriptors.

If your condition has worsened since the original decision, such that you now believe you meet Support Group descriptors, you should notify DWP and ask for a reassessment. The onus will be on you to show 1) that you have a new condition since the previous decision and 2) You now meet the SG criteria.
