Sleep button on my laptop

Hello . I wondered if anybody can help me with this I have got a 3 year old Lenovo, still under warranty thinkpad t410


recently, if I have used it and then went for a break, as normal it goes on sleep mode, and the light around the button glows in and out. before I used to just touch the keyboard or press the button, and it would bring the home screen It doesn't now whatever I do. The only way for me is to restart?

Did try it 3 times , keeping pressed for slightly longer doesn't do any thing. Keep it pressed for even longer it will switch it of

switching off is what I meant by a long one, always has the potential to corrupt the hard disk, but there are no other options.

if that doesn't work, it's bust.

in that case I better call the good Chinese guys of Lenovo to try and fix it for free then... tried adjusting all the features on ''what do you want the sleep button to do'' and none of them makes a difference ''

I misread it as a current situation, rather than a repeating one

try setting it to hibernate instead of sleep.
