Did you organise and pay for the inspection or did the vendor?

:rotfl:as ever, thank you. Well to be honest we would try to get the vendor to treat it. if she wanted to do it herself i probably wouldn't mind. How hard is it to do?

Impossible id say, even for professionals. To access and treat all the timber in the house you would have to take the whole thing down and rebuild it!

After several months of reading and research I have come to the conclusion that the only benefit of having woodworm treatment is to satisfy solicitors and mortgage companies. If you have active woodworm you have damp. Fix the damp and the colony will die out eventually.

Oo now that is interesting, as no damp of any kind was found. So would you expect there to be no infestation?

No I wouldn't expect it to be active. Although adults can emerge from the wood for several seasons after the damp has gone but the adults will go off to seek more suitable wood to lay their eggs on.

Vendor arranged the treatment which was carried out 3 weeks before we move in. We gave him £200.

In our case we arranged a survey at the I distance of the mortgage company. It's cost £225 and no remedial work was recommended.

Personally I would for piece of mind. Just make sure your surveyor is independent.
