Sorry HB officer but your last post sounds so smug, like the tenants think they have won but we plan to get them back!

I think thats a unfair comment, HBO was stating the facts, he doesn't make the rules he just has to follow them.
  • We plan to re impose the bedroom tax on the 3rd March 2014 to all those we exempted due to the loophole.

I don't doubt it for a moment, bet you can't wait! providing the tax loophole is closed on the 3rd of march.

With all the 2 and 3 bedroom property's now standing empty lets hope councils don't have to make job cuts eh!

To be honest, this is what really gets my goat about the whole welfare reform agenda.

Central Govt are making the rules and passing the buck onto local councils so we come out looking like the bad guys.

Why do you think MidnightHour that Council officers support this poilcy? I for one don't but I am paid to administer public funds in accordance with the law and that means the bedroom tax. It isn't why I started in this job 13 years ago, that was to help people. Sadly, I am not able to do much more than offer support and advice to those really affected but I still feel I am doing something worthwhile
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

All views expressed in my posts are my own opinions and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer.

There is no such thing as a bedroom tax.

Don't worry Fluffy, most of us know. Although it has got to the point where they are now asking you to administer public funds within conflicting law! I'm sure you know what I mean.

I do believe those with disability rights issues were 100% right to appeal and all you can do is explain the procedures to people and support them through the process. I know this has swamped Councils with appeals and you are piggy in the middle, but it's the Government's fault for putting in place such shoddy legislation in the first place.

Wrong it's referred to as such on the UK Parliament website. Do keep up we cleared that up yesterday.

It isn't wrong. Tenants are not being asked to pay a tax. They're being 'given less' housing benefit money.
    • The introduction of the Housing Benefit Cap or “bedroom tax” which means a reduction in benefit for anyone with a “spare” bedroom
