Hi Guys,
I bought a laptop 1.5 years ago from pc world with there lovely know how cover being told that i would be treated much better then when i was on there warenty and they treated me like  .
So the screen and keyboard go down on the laptop i take it to pc world 3 weeks later it comes back, I take it home to find a dead pixel on the screen. I take it to PC world store say to them look ive had this for 30mins and its broke they say we can send it off but that will take 21days. I said !!!! that i will call head office.
I am on the phone to there head office for 30mins to be told at the end we are sorry even though we will admit its a faulty screen and we should have checked it we cant fix this due to it is within tollerance. To top it off i was also informed that if i had sent my laptop back it would have been returned to me straight away.
So after a arugment again with them i fail to see what i pay these butchers to do every month but hay does anyone know of any way these guys must fix the laptop i only got it back yesterday.

Leaving aside warranties and so on, there is usually a specific "rate" of dead pixels that manufacturers consider to be within spec, based on an ISO class rating for the screen.
Some discussion on tolerance rates here: http://www.behardware.com/articles/666-2/a-look-into-dead-pixels-2007.html0 -
But surely this should have been checked before it was sent if i was to have paid 280 to get this fixed i would never have accepted it0

Some people pay £1000 for a new TV that comes with a dead/stuck pixel and can't get it replaced as it falls within tolerance.
Unfortunately although we all know it shouldn't happen and that it is effectively faulty there is nothing we can do unless the supplier is willing to replace or fix. My daughters bedroom TV has a stuck pixel and has done since day one, nothing I can do about it.
You can pick up a new laptop screen on Ebay for £40-£80 and fit it yourself but there is the chance that it too will have a dead/stuck pixel (although I have never seen it on any I have replaced in the past).0 -
Sorry, I don't know what procedures PC World have in their in-store vs. central repair service, I was just saying that there is an accepted rate of dead pixels in LCD screens.
If you took it to the store and the screen was dead, how would the store check whether it had any dead pixels? Or are you saying that they should have checked before they gave it back to you? If the latter, surely as it only has one dead pixel, maybe they did check it, decided it was within tolerance, and sent it back anyway?
The trouble with LCD panels is that no-one realises there is this industry-wide acceptance of a certain number of dead pixels until they get something that has one and try to get it swapped.0 -
well thanks for all your answers guys looks like me 0 pc world 1 dam this sucks. Maybe i will give it a thew weeks and accidently on purposly put my fist through the screen and get it replaced again0

Google for programmes that attempt to fix dead pixels.
They run through a sequence of ons and offs and colours and sometimes bring a dead pixel back to life.
You might get lucky.0 -

With pc worlds reputation they may mess up the motherbaord like my last laptop. This is how bad they are.
I sent my old laptop with a battery problum come back with a new battery but no fan.
Sent off the laptop and they fixed the fan come back to me laptop wouldnt load up they messed up the motherbaord due to heat.
Sent off come back with what looks like a claw hammer through the screen case.
Sent off come back but without the charger AAAAHHHH all i wanted was a new battery.

Can I ask why you continue to use PC World?0

In the interests of fairness and balance - I got my daughter's laptop screen replaced by PCW recently and all went smoothly.
(I used them because the laptop was only 2 months old and was bought from them - daughter had accidentally whacked the screen with her guitar head - so I didn't want to risk any future warranty issues if anything goes wrong. If it was 12 months old I would have fixed it myself).0
