Interference ?

Options
On my desk I have a portable phone (one of a pair). Recently I have introduced a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, so two receivers in USB hub.

Is it possible that any cracking (noise) on the phone line is due to these two items?.

The thing is, the router needs to be here, as does the phone.

The interference caused by the wireless devices are a likely cause, most Wi-Fi operate in the 2.4 Ghz frequency range and some wireless phones also operate in the 2.4 GHz range. Have you tried removing or switching off the wireless devices to confirm if the phone quality improves?

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi performance is also affected by wireless devices such as wireless keyboards and mice and wireless phones. More info available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_interference_at_2.4_GHz

5 Ghz Wi-Fi is less susceptible to interference caused by wireless devices.
Does your router have the option of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
How have you configured the Wi-Fi channel on the router? Most of the time the Wi-Fi channel is set to "auto" but you might have some luck by changing the Wi-Fi channel manually.

I have my Wi-Fi router in the same cabinet as my TV freeview box and certain TV channels are affected by the Wi-Fi making the TV signal break up. I discovered that if I changed the Wi-Fi channel manually to channel 9 or 10 then there is no interference on the TV.

The simplest thing is to rule out any ACTUAL line noise, by removing the faceplate from your BT master socket and connecting a corded, analogue phone (a few quid from the likes of Argos) into the TEST socket (made visible when removing the faceplate), and dialling* 17070 option 2 then listen - any noise in the background will be due to a non-optimum line and should be looked at by your line rental provider.

    * BT-operated, or reseller, lines only. TalkTalk or Sky phone lines will probably only tell you your phone number and not offer any other options.
