fitting windows in bad weather?

Im having my whole house double glazed soon, the install date is the 24th of feb with 5 to 7 day install time. Can windows be installed in bad weather?
wouldnt the silicon sealant and expanding foam that appear to be the tools of the trade require the walls etc to be dry to form a good seal?
also is there a point where they will not install due to the damage done by the weather to the inside of a room?
I didnt realy consider torrential rain and storms when getting quotes etc, with hindsite perhaps the summer is a better time

Hi nicke20
It is likely your window fitters will be sub contractors working on a fixed price and motivated to do whatever possible to make money. Consequently, they will not be unduely worried about your decorations. Their only concern with the weather will be it slows them up. This is not being harsh - if they do not work they do not earn a living.
Alternatively, it could be the fitters are directly employed labour. If so, their managers will not have paid the wages over the last three wet months whilst the fitters have sat around saying they are "rained off". Their managers will be relying on weak clients allowing their fitters to keep fitting. Again, this is not being harsh - the companies have to remain viable.
The expanding foam often works better with an amount of moisture to damp the surface and to cure the product.
Applying silicone on wet surfaces is a problem. This is not good practice.
If this was my home I would not be having windows fitted at this time of year.
Ultimately, this is your problem to resolve. You are the client, it is your home, you call the shots. Do not let the company brow beat you.
When the fitters do arrive I suggest you watch them like a hawk to ensure you get the standard of work and attention to detail one should expect, but rarely gets. This will be particularly important when the weather conditions are poor.
Hope this helps.0 -
I made sure that the company i dealt with only had retained fitters
the team is one of the partners and an employed full time fitter who has been with them 12 years. I will phone and ask0 -
We install in weather like today and have not had problems with sealant adhering and forming a proper seal its all down to the sealants used expanding foam adheres better to wet surfaces although we dont use as a fixing method like someif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0
