I think it's worth reading this one:

Just how long are you prepared to wait?0 -
We put an offer in on a house where the vendors were prepared to go into rented, or so we thought.... They found a house the day after we offered (fair enough, no onward chain on that one....) Then the top of the chain started playing silly b****rs with the completion date, which meant our buyers got knarked off, and in the end we had to knock £200 off our sale price for their loss of rent (buying as a btl). In the grand scheme of things not a major issue, but pretty annoying!0

Thanks for the replies guys. Really useful and informative.
I went back to the Estate Agent and told them that whilst we could wait for a while we need a time frame of when they'll leave by. She went back to the vendors but before she could get in contact with them she called to say she's been contacted by their ea and that their offer on a place was accepted.
Their seller is moving into an empty house so is keen to get the ball moving quickly.
Is this considered a complete chain or should I hold back a while before purchasing mortgage, solicitors etc?0
