Are nPower setting my tariff artificially high?
I signed up online with nPower November 16 2013 to try and beat the price hikes. I chose a fixed price deal until 2017.
I don't have a record of the tariff I was attracted to.
Now it's 13th February and I've got my welcome email through. I have studied the tariffs and it looks like they are trying to over charge me.
The prices are
Electric 16.6425p per kWh
Gas 4.5p per kWh
Checking this on moneysavingexpert.com the same prices are listed for the same deal and there is a note saying these prices include the price increases of 10% made in December 2013.
So my question is, how is it possible a tariff I signed up for in mid November is advertised today at the same rate saying it includes a 10% rise made in December.
My feeling is that nPower have not honoured their promise to give me the rates I supposedly fixed last year after having spent months getting my account set up.
Please tell me if any of the above needs more explaining.

Someone will be with you later, however it will depend largely on dates, and whether the rises were for new customers in advance.

I'm afraid you made a poor choice with npower, probably 80% of the complaints on here are about them. They're going through absolute meltdown with their billing systems, and even they acknowledge that.
To deal with this, I'd imagine you need some form of evidence of the rates you signed up to; an email or a letter of some description. Armed with that write (don't phone or email) a letter headed complaint, outlining what's happened and that you expect the contract you signed up to to be honoured. They then have 56 days to deal with the matter to your satisfaction, if they don't, then on day 57 you can take it to the energy ombudsman.
Without such evidence...I have no idea. Sorry.0 -
Thanks for your clear and prompt advice. I was in such a hurry to leave EDF Energy that I went for nPower. EDF gave me a year of trouble with billing and wasted so much time.
My welcome email didn't list tariffs. They only came later so I don't really have any evidence of what I was offered at the time. Surely there is some sort of historical record of plan prices over the months.
My wife encouraged me to follow Martin's constant advice to fix the price before the price hikes. Now I'm in trouble

Hi Skrilla,
I'm pleased to hear that you've chosen npower as your energy provider
.
Based on the date you signed up I can advise that the only fixed tariff deal until 2017 that we were offering was the Price Protector December 2017.
The units rates you have quoted are the correct ones (for customers who reside in the Eastern area). The tariff was originally launched on 21 October 2013 and the prices have been fixed since this time and will continue to be until 31 December 2017.
If you can provide me with the link which states that this tariff includes our December 2013 price changes I'll be happy to review this further. You can reach me using the email address from my profile.
Thanks
Leigh
