Not sure this is quite in the right place for this post, but we desperately need a new home finance package to keep our money under control, we used Quicken for donkeys years but we really need to make the switch. Anyone got a view on a package with similar functionality that's UK based.
thanks

I'm still making do with an old version of Microsoft Money but am aware of the following two packages, both of which are free. I haven't tried either of them so can't comment on how good or bad they are but it could be worth downloading them and giving them a go.

Hope this helps.0 -
Another one to check out Moneysoft Money Manager

It has a free trial copy. I've used the Personal Edition for 20 years ;-)0 -

Another vote for Microsoft Money - discontinued but you can download it free - make sure you get the UK version. Like OP I'd originally used Quicken until that was discontinued. MS Money can import old Quicken files.0

I use AceMoney, It is OK but I much prefer Quicken which I used for 10 years. I only changed because it would not work with Windows 7.0

'YouNeedABudget'. The best £35 I ever spent. You can installs it on as many computers as you want (PC/Mac), updates are free for life, you can use Dropbox to syncronize across all install & you can update via a mobile app.
Superbly easy to use. Even I could get the hang of it & it will even import Quiken & MSMoney files.Never Knowingly Understood.

Having just renewed my PC and I am in the process of loading all my previously used programs and getting used to W7. However, I was very disappointed when my old Quicken 2006 disc only partially installed and the seemingly essential .DLL files seemed to be missing.
Having discovered this thread and reading that all hope is lost with regard to Quicken/W7 I decided that I'd bite the bullet and install an alternative program and having read the comments, I decided upon Moneydance. Annoyingly, to install the data from my old Quicken files I should have done an EXPORT from my old Quicken file to create a .QIT file, which I hadn't done. I had remembered to do a backup, but that wasn't enough.
So I undid all the cables from the new pc and plugged them back into the old pc and opened Quicken to do the necessary export which I saved onto an external hard drive. It was at that point that I had my "eureka moment"!!
So, my "fix" was to copy/paste the WHOLE PROGRAM (as opposed to data files) from my old PC and copy it onto the external hard drive. Then I transferred all the .DLL files (about a couple of dozen!) into the new Quicken PROGRAM folder on the new PC (if this hadn't worked, I was going to cut/paste the whole program, but that wasn't necessary in the end)
When I clicked on the desktop Quicken icon, it asked for my code, which I had still written on my program disc & booklet, so I added that and clicked on the "existing customer" option and opened up my file! Voila!
I hope some of that helps someone else.
PS Just as an aside, I went searching on the Quicken website in case they had become enlightened (since the last time I checked and complained) and had created a new (supporting Europe) Home Finance package, but no. But my presence did prompt a "tell us what you think of our products.." popup questionnaire. So I told them....!!!!!
I cant think it will help, but I hope eventually all our comments might trickle through! I cant believe that it isn't worth it for them to support what seems by all the comments on this, other and even their own Intuit forum, to be a large number of customers wanting their product!0 -
You can still use the US edn of Quicken. Ignore the dollar signs and assume pounds. As long as you are not doing currency conversions, does that matter? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

No need to ignore the dollar signs and assume pounds. Enable multi-currency support in Preferences and select UK Pound Sterling as the default currency before creating any accounts or importing an existing Quicken file and everything will be displayed in pounds and pence.
You must set it up before creating or importing data though, because you cannot change the default currency of an account after it has been created or imported in a different currency.0
