Hi everyone! First post on here.
A little over two weeks ago my girlfriend and I booked a holiday in store, we paid half each on our debit cards. Her money was transacted the next day, I checked my online statement 2 days ago and the money had not been taken and there was no pending transactions. I have a receipt saying the holiday has no balance remaining also I phoned yesterday and they confirmed that the holiday was paid off.
Could there have possibly been an error?
I am in two minds whether to either:

I am in two minds whether to either:
- Wait and see if I get away with it.
- Just tell them to save me having to keep the cash in my bank account.

They have up to 6 years to claim a payment after the original transaction date.
So you won't get away with it they will eventually catch up with you, its best to leave the money where it is and wait for them to claim the money.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Okay thanks! Does anybody know any of the possible reasons why they haven't completed the transaction?0

User error, technical glitch, etc.
Don't worry, either the transaction is "stuck" somewhere and it'll be processed shortly, or someone will balance the accounts, notice the error and manually push the original authorisation through.
Whatever you do, don't spend it!
It's times like these when interest paying current accounts are quite nice0 -
It's actually 6 months to process the payment under the various card scheme rules. 6 years is how long they can legally chase you in England and Wales.dr_adidas01 wrote: »They have up to 6 years to claim a payment after the original transaction date. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks for the help guys. I spoke to my bank today and they told me to hang on to the money but also suggested that its not uncommon for payments to never come out! I guess I will just have to wait and see!!!0

I think your bank is telling porkies when they say that "its not uncommon", because I'm pretty sure that a reasonable person would conclude that the number of unprocessed payments is so so small that they would indeed say it's uncommon.0

Hi Guys,
Just an update with this. It has now been nearly 8 months. Under the ruling quoted below, can they still transact the money?

They can, but you can dispute it with your bank and ask for the money to be refunded. Of course, you'll still owe the money so you could expect them to take other steps to get it from you, up to and including court action. But you may be in luck and they'll never ask. Only another 5 years 4 months until you're completely in the clear!0
