Hidden ATM Charges

I just wanted to see whether others have had experiences on the subject of hidden cash point charges, being somewhat careful with my money I have never paid to withdrawal until last Sunday night…..
I had the pleasure at the cash point in the wall of the local Blockbuster. There was no sign displaying charges, or a mention of the charges during the withdrawal process, I only found out because I requested a receipt and on it was a surcharge of £1.75.
I thought that this was an illegal practice, I have written to the operators (Cardpoint) complaining – no reply as yet.
Like I said earlier, what are your experiences on this?
How can we stop others being duped?
Is this illegal?
What else should I do?
Are Cardpoint famous for this practice?

Write a written complaint to your bank..if that doesnt work you can escalate it to the Financial obmdusman you will DEFINATLEY will lodge your complaint as if this is true the owner of the machine or company is liable for a minimum penalty of 15k plus suspend lincense under FSA guidlines
for the cashpoint operators give a notice of legal action ! letter and see what they say...I wont be surprised if they get goosebumps in their stomachs
for a court claim you need to fillout an N1 small claims form and its vis HMCS UK. this shud be submitted to the small claims court or your local county court

Did the ATM actually have the charge when you went through the process of taking cash out? If it did you do not have a leg to stand on. If it didn;t then you need to find out the ATM owner, ie bank name or company name and report them because all charging cash machines have to warn you that there may be a charge for withdrawing cash.0
