I phoned up to make a payment to my egg card and they have blocked all security on it as i am only the second card holder!!!!!
I told them we were over limit and wanted to make a payment and cos i stupidly told them i realised when i logged on last night they said i had no authority to do so. I could run up a bill but have no right to find out a balance, make a payment etc.
I am so angry. I just found out that we are £20 over our limit and tried to make ammends.
I told the girl i am trying to be responsible and clear the difference but she was really cheeky and told me i am commiting fraud!!!
I cannot believe this has happened.
Mainly because it's only me who uses this card and my DH has no idea that it is maxed out.
We have split up but i am stil paying htis card. I now need to tell him to phone up and reset the security and he will now know it is maxed out.
Does anyone know if i can pay by cheque to egg or if i can make a payment in the back or via phone banking?

Thank you so so so so much for this.
I am going to make a payment by BACS. If egg call again i'll tell them we done this and will just keep doing this till the account gets cleared.
This now makes the Egg card my main debt in my DFW challenge :money:
I hate egg.
Imagine having the authority to run up £2000 on a card but not having the authority to pay it off. How stupid.Official DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts

I agree with Egg I'm afraid. You are a secondary card holder but the debt and anything else that goes with it is your husbands.
Only he can deal with the running of the account.
You are fortunate that he has not blocked your card.0 -
what for? trying to make a payment?
I was not trying to get a higher credit limit or balance transfer another card - i was quite simply trying to make a payment.
I don't see the problem with that. Why would you disagree with someone trying to make a payment?Official DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts

You say that you have split up.
The main card holder is your husband (or ex)
You have spent up to the limit (and more) on the card.
Need I say more?
The running of the card (including paying it back) rests with the principal cardholder.
You already admit that you log in on behalf of your ex. This is not allowed and you have compromised the security on his card.0 -
I regularly transfer a payment online from my bank account to Egg. I don't even have a card. I just log onto dh's Egg account.0

I can understand where you are coming from but the fact that the running of this card appears on my credit file, i should have the authority to make a payment on it if it goes into the red.
I think we'll end the disagreement now as it could go on foreverOfficial DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts

The running of that card shouldn't appear on your credit file at all.
There is no credit check for additional cardholders, it has nothing to do with you.
The only reason it might be linked to you is because you are financially linked with your ex ( this would be the case if u had a bankaccount together, mortgage etc...)
If your ex isn't aware that you are using the card, you have, in fact, committed credit card fraud. Nevermind the fact that you wanted to pay it or not. That's the way card companies have to look at it
Good news though. You cannot be held liable for it for any legal reason

Egg have done nothing wrong. They are only allowed to deal with the account holder, not any one who happens to be an additional card holder regardless of what you are doing to the account even if its making a payment.
We can debate all day as to the rights and the wrongs of this, but thems the rules Im afraid!Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -
Yes but isn't it all a nonsense, anyone could make an internet payment to the account and egg wouldn't check, following their logic only the account holder should be able to make payments.
All these companies make up the rules as they go along, I remember a few years ago sorting out new car insurance for my OH, phoned losts of companies and eventually settled on one, phoned to say my wife would like to take the policy out and they said I couldn't do that they could only deal with my wife, she came to the phone agreed to the policy and then quoted my credit card details to them, which they happily took.0
