Scottish power 'Change my service' misleading?

..do everything online, they know my usage!

Just entered my latest readings and nearly passed out at the bill that's about to be generated.

Out of curiosity I clicked 'change my service' and was astounded to see that they reckon, again - they know everything about me, that by switching to another fixed tariff I'll reduce my monthly payment by half.

Clearly this looked too good to be true, so I looked at the details of the suggested tariff and re-calculated my last bill using the new figures and lo and behold it would be more expensive.

At best this is grossly misleading and I'm sure plenty of people are clicking away at the promise of a better deal.

Is this a glitch? Common practice? Didn't they get into trouble for this kind of thing already?

...interested to hear other stories.

Cheers,
