Yes and chronic medical conditions effect everyone differently, so same point. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

Can you please explain further?
Don't see the variable between one pancreas failing to produce insulin and another.0 -
Are you looking for an argument because that's how you come across in your posts? If you are I'm sorry but I won't be obliging.
I don't understand how you fail to recognise that diabetes effects different people in different ways. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -

My friend is a RMN - Mental Health Nurse. He has Type 1 Diabetes - 4 injections of some stuff he keeps in the Fridge (forget the name). Aside from having a few lumps and bumps where he injects... he's fine. He manages it well and leads a normal life. He is never off work, never poorly....
Diabetes can be controlled. It will only take over your life if you let it.
It may be classed as a Disabilty in some Disabled Dictionary, but it is hardly on par with MS or similar, is it?
I find this generalisation ill informed and unhelpful.
I know of two people, one who has MS, works, studies and is fit and well, rarely has symptoms, has NEVER needed to take time off work etc etc...
Whilst another, diabetic, has had dreadful problems for many years as his diabetes is very hard to control. He has collapsed in his home and hit his head and injured himself several times, and has collapsed whilst out and about, to later come round and find himself in A&E. Understandably, the unpredicatability of his condition does limit his life a lot.
Please dont generalise - this type of sweeping statement that "It may be classed as a Disabilty in some Disabled Dictionary, but it is hardly on par with MS or similar, is it?" is offensive to both parties here.

Actually the Welfare State is for those who are in a position where they are unable to help themselves, not for those who choose not to!
What sort of state would this country be in if all diabetics declined to take ownership of, and work at controlling their condition? Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0 -
I most certainly am not looking for an argument!
I have strong opinions on the matter based on personal, lived experience.0 -
are you diabetic then. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

Aaahh sorry, that's where you've got me, I've no experience what with 3 blood relatives, a FIL and a close friend who all have it.
Sorry if I took you up wrong, I'll leave you to your 'strong opinions'.The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
i think this post should be stopped as its not for people to have digs about claiming dla its for helping others. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

Slightly O/T, but may be a comfort in future:
At university, my daughter shared a room with a young diabetic woman who used leaving home as a way to go into over-the-top denial, and really did not take the best care of herself for a while. Her mother was permanently worried.
She is now married and settled, with 2 healthy little boys, so wobbly patches (although obviously not a great idea) don't necessarily have serious consequences.0
