even if you rent privately you would still need contents insurance for YOUR things, as they almost certainly won't be covered on your landlords policy. Would be wise to check

I would say that your soa looks good but do think that the two of you should put all debts into the snowball calculator because you may find a way to hammer them down quicker.
I'm so jealous that you have a huge veggie plot, can I come and live at the bottom of your garden?
Do you grow freezable crops and fruit etc? Someone on the gardening board was saying to put tatties in a bucket now for christmas and someone else sows carrots all year round.
If you were able to get bar work for both of you in the same pub each evening then you could still spend time together. It would also mean that you wouldn't have to go to the pub to meet the locals and you could "pick their brains" about local food sources (translate to get freebies offered!).
Do post up a joint soa and we can have a butchers. When you do could you post all info such as apr and minimum payment and with the loan, the term remaining. Also let us know if there are any penalties to overpaying your loan.
At least when you go for a day out it shouldn't cost much with being in such a beautiful location!

Thank you for your post. Sure you can come live at the bottom of the garden! :rotfl: Yes, you're right - it's nice just to go out for a walk in such a lovely place. Shame it's been raining for the past 2 weeks pretty much though!

Well, I've input all our details into the Snowball Calculator ... but I'm not sure how to post it on here?? Can somebody tell me if this takes into consideration that you will be paying more off other debts once you've cleared a couple??

As soon as somebody explains what it is I need to post in here, then I'll post it. Thanks in advance!

Oh, and another thing - I had a talk with hubby and he said that he was paying quite a bit over the minimum in order that he can clear his debts sooner and he has no problem in paying me extra. He transferred £140 into my bank account yesterday and also paid me £50 towards this month's shopping bill. This is going to help me. Unfortunately it'll mean it'll take him longer to clear his debts, but at least it'll keep my head above water!

  • Hi Silverbird,

just a quick thought - how about putting any of those DVDs you mentioned that you don't want anymore on Amazon or somewhere to sell them on? It won't make you rich but it might help.

Also, I second the several people who've said check out quidco - I was dubious about it until I got £130 back on my car insurance :rotfl:

Anyway, just want to wish you and your OH lots of luck with your debt-busting - you can do it!

Hi there, the snowball calculator does take into account the extra you will be paying to your remaining debts once others start to clear. I find it is a great motivator, because you can see what a difference being able to chuck an extra tenner a month etc can make.

Good luck and keep posting - you are lucky you are both doing this together and that will prove to be invaluable to you.

Hi, tumbleweed. Yep, all unwanted DVDs have been sold on eBay. It certainly helps.

I'll check out Quidco, but I am not purchasing anything at the moment. I'll bear it in mind when I do though.

Thank you very much indeed for the encouragment and kind words. They're invaluable.

This might be the link to southern scousers thread at the top of the debt free wannabe board. It will give you a guideline for what we need to know.

I highly recommend doing it as a joint effort as you'll then see the way to get the most benefit from your debt repayments for you and DH!

    Monthly incomings:

    My salary - £924.66
    Partner's salary - £919.82

    Total: £1,844.48

    Monthly outgoings:

    Rent - £450
    Council Tax - £87
    TV license - £12.00
    BT Telephone/Broadband - £37.00
Scottish Friendly - £10.00 (a 10-year trust fund for my younger brother that expires in 3 years and cannot be cancelled without sacrificing bonuses)
    Mobile phone - £8.00
    Contact Lenses - £10.00
Haircut - £10.00 (works out at £10 per month and this includes both of us)
Bikini waxing - £16.00 (every 5 weeks) - my only luxury! (am in process of buying an epilator, which will remove this from my SOA)
    Food - £80
    Electric (metered) - £20
    Petrol - £35
Laundry - £10 (we don't have a washing machine in our actual house - it's based in next door's verranda and we pay 50p per wash and per dry for the electric)
    Pet insurance - £9.00

    Total: £795.00

    MINUS mimimum payments on debts:

    MY DEBTS:

    Lloyds TSB Credit Card: £1,490.17 @ 17.90% - £29.80
    MINT Credit Card: £2,412.50 @ 0% until December 07 - £54.28

    OH'S DEBTS:

    Nationwide Loan: £6,297.16 @ £166.58 per month - £166.58
    MINT Credit Card: £1,061.67 @ 23.88% - £30.00
    Natwest Credit Card: £4,642.00 @ 20.89% - £100.00
    Natwest Loan: £2,548.25 @ £130.00 per month

    TOTAL: -£585.66

    Grand total of Outgoings: £1,380.66

Obviously I haven't included things such as car repairs, birthday presents, broken things etc etc, but I'm not really sure how much to add on for those.

As I say, hubby has been using the little extra that he has to try to pay off his debts that little bit sooner, but for the time being he's giving me a little extra each month until I can get out of my overdraft (roughly into it by £200 at the end of each month at the mo). Hubby not in his overdraft, as I claimed back his bank charges and it paid his overdraft.

If anybody needs more information or thinks I've done something wrong etc, please let me know! Thanks!
