Direct Line Car Insurance - Payment Query

My car insurance is due for renewal on 9th March 2014. I saw Direct Lines advert to say 20% off if you take out car insurance with them at least 10 days before renewal. On 7th February I got a quote and it pretty much halved what I am paying now on monthly installments and with one less payment - so I proceeded to go ahead with this and of course it required an initial payment of £72 and some odd pence. I did this and yesterday I received the documents through the post.

My query is - the payment is not showing as having left my bank account - can anyone explain this?

Thanks Simon

  • They will probably authorise it at the time of purchase and then collect the payment in a batch process later. Only they can tell you what their cycle/ timings are.

Remember to contact your current insurers and advise them that you want the policy to lapse when it gets to its end and not autorenew

A year or so back i had to chase my insurer because they had not taken the payment several weeks after i paid in full by debit card over the phone.

I didnt want to risk them canceling the policy even though it was their fault.

Only took a minute or so. They thanked me for bringing it to their attentions and a couple of days later they took the payment.

Keep a track of it. On the day the new policy starts phone them if they have not taken the money.

    Not so. I can!

Direct line don't take payment early.

The payment will be taken on the day the policy starts.
