balance transfer on credit with missing history!

hello,
new to the board.
quick query - i want to transfer the balance of my credit card to one with 0%, for plenty of time.
however, for about a period of just over a year in 2012, i was living on a friends couch. this means i wasn't paying council tax, and was not officially registered on the rent agreement.
should i avoid applying for a credit card given these facts? how thoroughly do banks do a background check on this kind of thing?

Being on the electoral roll is a major factor for most lenders, if you weren't or aren't then. That will potentially be a major block.
A single application won't do much harm in any case so worth a try in any case in my opinion.0
