Child with autism receiving high care dla and has mobility needs.

Hi,
We have a wee lad of five and a half who has autism, doesn't talk or capable of doing anything for himself, is not aware of danger etc, is very mobile no problem with walking etc, gets meltdowns often though and lies on ground, is not aware of any danger whatsoever and has to be supervised 24/7.
At the moment he receives high rate care and it seems that a child has to be five to get the mobility component.
Just wondering if we apply for that can we apply for mobility component only, or will they also reassess the care component as well?
Thank you very much for any help.

The care component may be looked at too. Depending on the situation, he may be entitled to the higher mobility.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Could you ask a local support group to advise you or anyone who helped you fill out the forms in the first place? They may know how many have been successful with a claim for the mobility component and if your Son has similar problems. My Son on the spectrum gets lower mobility and has done from the age of 5.0

if the child shows severe mobility needs due to an illness or disability they can get the mobility car at 3 years old i know this as my friend gets his for her child at the moment most people think its 5 but you can get it a 3 years old.
they can look at the whole claim again though but if the child circumstances have not changed and still needs the care they need i cant see there being a big problem but there is no guarantee

They will look at the lot, usually, although you can state you are only applying for the mobility component.
However, with your little lad's problems, I wouldn't think there would be any problems, regarding the care component.
Good luck with it.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -

only high rate mobility can be awarded at the age of 3, and is only usually awarded if a child cannot walk at all.
lower mobility isnt awarded until the age of 5 , as it is awarded for supervision ( where the child can walk unaided)
this is because, until the age of 5, it is accepted that ALL children need constant supervision when outdoors. after the age of 5 it should be possible to walk them down the road without needing to constantly hold their hand0 -

You can get higher mobility for a child with severe mental impairment and behaviour problems, regardless of whether they can walk.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
