Yes I've been stung by them too, I have to call up now because I couldn't cancel via the website (even though they let me join via the site!), and my e-mail requesting cancellation was replied to with a 'we're sorry that you're not happy, please call this number, blah blah blah')

It's clear that they try to make it as hard as possible to cancel - so that you just give up and let another month's sub come out of your account! It's a horrible way to run a business I think

You can get a £2 statutory report from both Experian and Equifax relevant websites, no trial, no phone calls, no messing.

Lenders can use any of the three CRA`s, so you should check your file on all three.

I cancelled my trial in 5 minutes, they wanted to sell me a cheaper service (maybe sending me e-mails if there are new things on my credit report?), but I didn't ask it and they cancelled it for me.
  • I cancelled on the phone. It was quick and easy.
Grateful to finally be debt free!

Get the £2 stat reports, it's all you need. You can then compare your experian stat report with noddle to check that it's accurate.

I cancelled after the free trial a few years ago and it was fine but it sounds as if they have stepped up their "please stay" routine recently judging by what other posters have said.

  • Hi,
I've just joined so that I can post my views on Experian.
It seems clear that Experian have set up their systems to extort money from the public.
We had a free trial to see why a credit application was refused.
It turned out that Experian innocently held incorrect details about an unpaid mobile 'phone installment.
The mobile 'phone company confirmed that the error was theirs and this confirmation was submitted by them to Experian.
We were copied in on the email.
Experian then, in our view, deliberately prevaricated in dealing with the matter over a period of 4 months. During that period, they would not allow the free trial to continue.
We, unfortunately, kept the expired free trial running, at the ridiculous monthly Experian fee, in order to monitor that the error was corrected. During that time, Experian just pleaded that they were "overworked" and that they would deal with it as soon as possible.
Obviously we could spend another lifetime getting Experian to receive a slap on the wrist, or a full pardon, but we feel that the stage is set for them to continue to behave in this divisive manner.
The free trial should be allowed to continue whilst Experian resolve an issue, otherwise it should automatically end unless renewed.
