Cameron apparently said Money no Object. Whats the difference?Archi_Bald wrote: »Who, apart from you, said that austerity ended?“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0

He knows that there are contingency funds in departmental budgets to handle this.Glen_Clark wrote: »Cameron apparently said Money no Object. Whats the difference?
Just hope it doesn't happen again next year.0

How does he know how much it is going to cost?PeacefulWaters wrote: »He knows that there are contingency funds in departmental budgets to handle this.

Particularly if people decide there is no longer any need for themselves to insure against flooding!!!“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0

I saw it on the News. He gave a Press conference about the floods, and said "Money is no object in this relief effort".
You can argue that he should perhaps said this earlier, or not said it at all. But you can't deduce that he said austerity had ended.
I have no idea where he finds the money - from contingency, from further cuts elsewhere, from tax rises etc - but I do think everything needs to be done to help people whose houses have been rendered uninhabitable by these enormous floods.0

The money is coming from other areas of cabinet which was set aside or money under spent there is no new money as such.0

You're not suggesting Op that after a couple of months of flooding Mr Cameron has got involved just 'cos the Thames has flooded. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, i'm sure if it had been the Mersey; Tyne or Humber the nice man would have been on the first train here with his cheque book.
He promised whatever money it takes people will be helped. Just been on the radio news that those suffering will be given £5k. Dave must know some good Romanian builders working for cash-in-hand if it's only cost five thousand to fix up some of those houses.

Maybe but, they were dredging the two rivers in Somerset in the early 1990s and it didn't stop the flood back then. Your then in to the realms of.... 'well, how much did it affect (reduce) flooding?'Glen_Clark wrote: »Maybe, but it obviously would have reduced it.
The problem is that people just want to be able to blame someone..... the Government for not making available suitable investment, the agency for not digging/building in the right place, the local councils for agreeing planning permission, etc, etc, etc.
Perhaps we need to just accept that we cannot 'manage' nature all the time and there will be implication on us, some unfortunately more so than others, and for some quite disastrous.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

I agree everything should be done to assist in the immediate emergency but strongly opposed to post flood handouts to homeowners/businesses funded by all taxpayers. When would it end?
Just noticed my fence panel down , where do I claim??!!!!! Just noticed other panels looking a bit tired....ooooppppps they've all fallen down. Gonna need complete new fence now ....no matter, everyone else can pay.
Sorry to seem harsh but you get the point.0
