Bt landline query

Hi I currently have a BT line coming into the house to the main BT socket, from there I have an extension cable running upstairs, across the landing and into a bedroom ,where it connects to my router.

The speed of my broadband connection is poor and I think this may be due to the long extension lead.

I was wondering if the line coming in which runs along the outside roof line could be" split" with a separate line being installed direct into the bedroom.
Is this possible? Would I need to get BT to do this or could an independent engineer do the work?
If I were to get an independent engineer, how does this sit with BTs T&Cs?
More importantly how would it affect the main telephone socket and telephone reception?

Any advice will be most welcome.
PS sorry about the spacing yes you have guessed I am new to this keyboard and my learning curve is very steep!!

cannot be split, main socket can be moved but at a price

why is your router upstairs ?

put it by the main socket and use power line adapters for lan extensions or wifi extenders to increase wireless range if thats the problem

Router is upstairs as no power socket available near BT main socket.
  • Test the router in the master socket and see if your speeds improve. If they do not, try another filter. If the speed is still poor it suggests its nothing to do with your extension.

If you do get better speeds it suggests that your extension is of poor quality. If you have a decent quality extension installed and working filters there is no reason for poor broadband performance.

As is mine via a dedicated cat 5 cable .
Certainly no drop from master socket via this cable .BT OR engineer was 100% happy with this method on install .
