Another reason to love Hiscox home insurance

I love Hiscox quite a lot already as their cover is so good, but just had this email from them:
The Environmental Agency currently has 16 severe weather warnings in place, with the South West, South East of England, London and Wales being particularly affected.
We have learnt over the last couple of months that evacuation can be both traumatic and expensive. Therefore, should you be advised to evacuate your home by the emergency services or authorities, we will provide a payment of £250 towards any expenses you may incur. This is open to all customers who are forced to evacuate their home regardless of whether they pursue a claim.
This is our way of offering some help in what we know is a difficult time. It is in addition to your policy cover, there is no excess to pay and claiming this will not affect any claim you may have to make or any ongoing claims.

Bearing in mind this is a money saving website, loving Hiscox is fine if you got that sort of money to spend on insurance.
But for the rest of us, we save a lot more than £250 by not insuring with the rolls royce of insurers.
(Their premiums are around 6 times those of a run of the mill household name insurer)0 -
For us, they're only about £50 more per year. Hubby has some expensive camera gear, and by the time we add on all-risks cover for it as a named item with other insurers, they end up almost as expensive as Hiscox.
Also, we're getting a huge discount for having been with them a long time. Our renewal quote last year was £450. I did a new customer quote online just to check that it was reasonable, and it came out at £790!!! I wonder if they're trying to avoid getting too much new business on the direct lines side, as if I was a new customer now then I'd be a lot better off with another insurer...0 -

A rather sweeping generalisation.
I dont insure with them but their 505 policy was about 50% more than my M&S policy rather than 600% more and their cover is significantly higher.
If you fit into their target market more than we do then their prices are likely to be closer.
And as to a money saving site - it can be money saving if you happen to have a claim that would be covered in full on a premium policy like Hiscox but would be rejected or only part covered by a budget policy. Of cause the whole idea of insurance is to exchange the uncertainty of a big loss for a smaller known loss0
