HSBC coin machine- is it instant deposit?

I paid £13.50 into an HSBC coin machine at 4.37pm however the deposit still isn't showing on my online statement. How long does it normally take?

  • I'm not sure about coin deposits. I think bank-note deposits are instant, but am not 100% sure.

Presumably the coin machines work in the same way as note machines, so as long as you inserted your card etc it knew what account to credit with the money... and I guess it should be immediate then.

As for checking online - maybe there's a few hour delay with the internet banking?

I thought they were instant. When I have used the ones at Natwest it gets credited immediately. You might want to give them a ring there could be a problem with the machine.

I thought it was instant as well, but I've never checked to be honest, I just throw the receipt into my 'In' tray and next time I check my banking, the deposit is there.
  • I'd hazard a guess that just like the Hsbc notes machines, and also the natwest coin machines, it would go into the account straight away.

If you have wisely kept your receipt, just take it into branch after a few days if it doesn't show up on your internet banking or on the receipts from the ATM's.

I'm sure it will be there somewhere.

I used them once, had to type account number and sort code in. Paid in on a Saturday, did not show till Monday.

Barclays coin deposits used to show at the end of the working day. (I've not used one for a couple of years.) If HSBC work the same way you may need to leave an extra working day as the machine may have been checked before 4.37pm

Any time I have used it it has been credited instantly, I have only used it on weekdays at lunch time.

I've kept the receipt and it's shown today so I assume it's a next working day service if you pay after say 3pm

That's exactly what it says on the ATM machines at my local branch.

"Deposits made after 3pm will be processed the next working day"
