what connector/adapter do I need?

Options
Ok I want to replace my 120mm pc case fan. Have purchased the Corsair AF120mm quiet ed. with led only to discover that its a 3 pin and my power cables are 4 pin molex.

So looking online there's different adapters/connectors can somebody point me in the right direction as to what I need?

Do you not have any 3 pin fan connectors in your motherboard, there are usually at least one or two spares you can use?

    Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H

looking into the case I have a 3 pin pwr fan, 4pin sys fan1 and a 3 pin sys fan2 I can't really get to under the sata sockets.

Is the one labelled pwr fan ok to use as its the only one with clear access to?
  • Ok managed to get it connected via sys fan2 but bit disappointed as its louder than the original one. Going to put a new cpu heatsink fan and see if that makes any difference.

However can feel air being sucked thru case from the front.

Have you checked in the bios to see if there is a fan speed control function? That should enable you to quiet it down considerably at the expense of airflow, of which it sounds like you have more than enough.

What was the reason for changing the fan? did you have thermal issues or was it the old one just getting worn and noisy? Reason for asking is that most of my systems will run happily with no case fans at all, just using the PSU fan to extract the warm air from the case if you are running at stock speeds.
