Argos Credit Card

Has anyone got the Argos credit card? i see its issued by vanquis, does that mean its easier to get?

  • I'm not sure, but I can offer my own experience. I was accepted for a Vanquis card in July 2012 with 5 defaults (all over 3 years old) on my credit file. I applied for an Argos card in December 2013 and I was refused.
  • Nobody ever came up to me and asked to apply for an Argos card, while I worked at Argos. Its APR is horrendous (30%?) and I would steer well clear, easy to get or not . . .
Could HAVE. Should HAVE. Would HAVE. Not OF.

    Hi

There are two types of Argos card I think - an Argos card you can only use to buy Argos goods, and an Argos credit card which is issued by Vanquis.

I have no credit history as I was always brought up to believe that if you wanted something, you saved for it. Now I have children I've realised that sometimes it's good to have the option!

I applied for the Argos credit card a few weeks ago, and got accepted straight away. My credit limit is only £250 at the moment, but I think it can eventually go up to £3000. I use the card for fuel and "days out" and pay as much off it as I can to minimise interest payments, and I regularly check the balance online to make sure I'm well away from the credit limit. A friend warned me that getting too close to the credit limit can bite you in the bum because of interest charges being added on when the statement has been issued (not sure if that's true???)

Around the time I applied for the vanquis card I applied for a mobile phone contract via E2Save but was rejected. I then applied for a 3 sim only contract that gave me the same as my £10/month giffgaff sim, and was accepted.

Earlier on this week I applied for an Aqua credit card and was accepted straight away online - it said I should receive the card in 5 - 7 working days. I don't know what the limit will be yet, but I'm assuming it will be around the same as the vanquis (£250)

I'm aiming to use both cards to pay for things I would normally pay for anyway rather than "treats" or purchases of items that we don't need. I'm hoping that after a few months with 3 I'll be able to upgrade to a full phone contract, mainly because my handset is on it's last legs!

Will update as the months go by with any info on the Argos CC.

You can only have one Vanquis card, so if you have one you will not get the Argos credit card.
